Vashon Island's Unofficial Mayor

Do you yearn to have a career in politics? Have you ever dreamed of participating in ribbon cutting ceremonies? Ever watch and election and think that looks fun? Here is your chance to become the Unofficial Mayor of Vashon Island AND support your favorite non-profit organization at the same time!

Anyone can register to run for office (with written permission of the non-profit organization they wish to represent).  Responsibilities as a candidate include announcing you are running for office to the Chamber of Commerce and local newspapers, campaigning for your election, placement of up to 12 ballot boxes in participating locations, and, if you win, riding in the Sunday Tom Stewart Memorial Car Parade.

Your supporters can vote (as many times as they like) by depositing a dollar (or more) in the ballot box.  Each dollar counts as one vote with the winner earning the title of Vashon Island's Unofficial Mayor.  All money goes to benefit non-profits on the Island.  Money is collected and sent to the Chamber of Commerce for counting and verifying.  The Mayor's race has been know to raise up to $15,000 to benefit Island causes.

You will be invited to participate in other events throughout the year, but participation is totally optional.  Once elected, the fun starts, we will invite you to work with us to celebrate the Island with ribbon cutting ceremonies, try and meet celebrities, have tea and other fun events and all year. As Mayor you will be able to do whatever you please.

(Just a word of caution, the Unofficial Mayor has as much power as they have budget for this position!)
